Every month, Catherine from the New Bookshop comes to school with a new book for class 1. This month we decided we would go and visit the shop. While we were there we heard some amazing new stories and had a look round the shop. It was super. We all got a sticker and said a big thank you.
The next day we opened the book and it was called The Station Mouse. We will read it again next week. The children were all beautifully behaved and the staff were very proud of them.
Thanks to Emily's mum, Kate, for coming with us.
Class 1 enjoyed a day at Muncaster Castle, where the children consolidated the half-term's work by getting close up and personal to many birds, including owls, eagles and a vulture! Poor Mrs Graham was terrified every time the birds swooped over our heads! We enjoyed our picnic in the courtyard, where visitors to the castle complimented the staff on the children's behaviour. They had an ice cream, a trip to the gift shop, and a play in the park. We had a singsong for Mrs Sloan who was celebrating her birthday! A lovely trip out with Class 1. Thanks to Luke Graham and Sue Walker for all the help!
"We're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a big one!"
As a grand finale to our work on We're Going on a Bear Hunt, by Michael Rosen, the children were invited to get their maps and binoculars and go look for bears in the garden and the field. We found many bears! Eden took her 'map' and we sang and chanted all the way round the school finding bears.
Mrs F brought in a new plant for the herb garden. The children were invited to smell it and say what they though. It was tricky! Lots of children thought it was a fruity smell. When they found out what it was called they all said "OOH YES!"
It's in the herb garden now and the children know how to smell the leaves.
Now it's summer it 's time to make our garden even better by planting. We filled the beds with fresh compost and planted hostas, geraniums, irises and lots of herbs.
We also made sure that one bed is full of plant pots and trowels for play activities.
The children know that the plants need regular watering to keep them healthy!
In September and October 2017 Class 1 were lucky enough to have some cricket lessons with Chris. They learnt lots of ball skills, including bowling, batting, and not forgetting " Whack the wicket!"
They had a great time, and made amazing progress. We will continue to develop our cricket skills later in the year.
